Port Nelson is the maritime gateway for the top of the South Island and a vital hub supporting the region’s continued economic growth and prosperity.  We’re a 24/7 operation with shifts commencing any time of the day or night, between the hours of Monday 0001 to Sunday 2359. Our major clients are the forestry, horticulture, aquaculture, automotive, food and wine sectors. Our Port is pumping, so we need more experienced people to join our team.

Something About You

First and foremost, you will be someone who is fully focused on safe work practices and the care of cargo. You have a minimum of 2 years’ proven Stevedoring and Warehousing experience, including heavy plant, leadership, and flexi fitting experience within container operations. Other important stuff about you:

  • You have a high level of physical fitness (the role involves securing cargo on ships and vanning and devanning containers);
  • You are an experienced heavy plant operator in a Port environment (Container Handlers and Mafi);
  • You are self-motivated and energetic - you love being busy;
  • You pay attention to detail, and you hate making mistakes;
  • You have shift work experience and can work a range of shift patterns/variable hours;
  • You are reliable and have leading hand experience along with experience leading flexi fitting and de-vanning crews; and
  • You can provide evidence of demonstrating our ASPIRE values – Accountability, Safety, Passion, Integrity/honesty, Respect and Excellence.

We offer a great working environment and an hourly rate of $32.70. Minimum guaranteed hours of 180 hours over 6 weeks (equivalent to 30 hours per week).
